Q. What do I do if a family member or a person I know dies at home in Cambridge?
Ans. o If the death is unexpected and happens at home in Cambridge, your first call should be to the Cambridge police by either 911 or 617-349-3300. The department is located at 125 Sixth Street, Cambridge, MA 02142. Department hours are Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesday – Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The police, EMTs, and fire department personnel will be the first responders. After they arrive, and once the EMT’s pronouncement happens, the police officer will contact the medical examiner. If your loved one is not transported to the medical examiner’s office for further inquiry, you should call Caspers at 800-314-1890 to come to your Cambridge home and complete the removal and transportation of your loved one to Caspers. You will need to DocuSign an “authorization for removal” form, so we have your authority to do the removal.
o o If your loved one was under at-home hospice care and the death was expected due to a terminal illness, you should contact your hospice nurse, who is able to complete the required nurse pronouncement form. Either you or the hospice nurse can call Caspers at 800-314-1890 to come to your Cambridge home and complete the removal and transportation of your loved one to Caspers. You will need to DocuSign an “authorization for removal” form, so we have your authority to do the removal. It is always best to pre-plan and pre-pay with Casper’s simple DocuSign process prior to the anticipated death. This will allow you to focus on your family and let us manage everything on your behalf.
Q. How do I get additional certified copies of the death certificate in Cambridge?
